They Will Know we Are Christians By Our Love (Jars of Clay)

February was the month of even more love than usual for the Young Lions. I have to start with the wonderful news about the 1st annual (yes annual – we are so excited!) Valentine’s Banquet. The Lady Lions did an absolutely wonderful job of planning and implementing the four star event that included unforgettable decorations, candlelit tables, a fabulous dinner, guest stars (including Avery as Sonny and Jasmine and Alexa as Cher and Cher in a rousing rendition of “I Got You and You Babes”), a Not-so-Newlywed game, photo booth (thank you Mike Taylor), dancing, numerous gifts and prizes and the
most beautiful pastor and most debonair pastor’s husband in Methodism! Papa Lions did what Papa Lions do best – supervised Young Lions and pre-lions. Young lions took orders and waited on tables. Almost everyone in attendance insisted that the event become an annual tradition. We have already begun planning the 2nd annual bigger and better Valentine’s Banquet. Start saving your quarters now! Oh yeah! I’d be remiss if I didn’t report that Dot and Ebbon were the Banquet Sweethearts and that some of the couples playing the Not-so-Newlywed game were obviously married to the wrong people. Thanks to the generous support of our wonderful congregation the Young Lions earned about $200 towards mission trips and summer camp. Thank you once again for your remarkable support of our exceptional Young Lions.

Also during February Mike and Erica, Cindy and I went to “Child Safe Training” in LaGrange and the Youth members again showed their Christian love for their neighbors by supporting the Bastrop Food Pantry and painting another neighbor’s ramp with skid-proof paint.

Many of the Young Lions are currently participating in Confirmation classes. All Young Lions will be attending the district Youth Rally and Yoking Ceremony at the First United Methodist Church in Seguin on the 1st of April. We will be participating in a program called “The Journey of the Cross”. The Young Lions will be portraying the Crucifixion of Christ as one of the stations portraying Christ’s journey to the cross, His Crucifixion and His entombment. It promises to be a very memorable event.

The Young Lions are now collecting, sorting and pricing donations for the annual Community Garage Sale to be held on the 8th of April. This is probably one of our most important events of the year as we, not only use the money to pay for members to go on a mission trip in June, and to summer camp in July, but all items collected and not sold are donated to the Bastrop Women’s Crisis Center which is one our major projects for the year. We are accepting almost anything of value except weapons or items requiring repair as we are not equipped to do repair work. Athletic equipment, camping supplies, gently used clothing, appliances, bicycles, furniture, books, cd’s, and dvd’s are a few items you might consider donating. Whether you donate or not, please put the date on your calendar and demonstrate your love for your friends, neighbors, and family by encouraging them to come out and take advantage of the wonderful bargains and excellent food that will be available.

There are so many more fun and exciting things happening over the next two months that I would love to share, but I had better close for now and start making them happen. If you know of any youth who are interested in serving, growing and celebrating in the name of Jesus Christ, please don’t hesitate to send them our way. New business cards with meeting hours on the back are available on the youth bulletin board for distribution to interested youth.
